Brittany’s Story of Success with CrossFit FCH

Around October of 2011 I remember stepping back and looking at myself. How unhappy I was even though I should have been elated about life. I had recently graduated college, gotten hired at a school I had only dreamed of working at and even had a new puppy lol. I found the root of my unhappiness and it was my weight. My weight wasn’t only making me unhappy as I was tipping the scale towards the 300lb mark, but it was also making my boyfriend unhappy. Not because he is shallow, but because I had let my weight over take me and turn me into a bitter, unhappy, lazy person. I was a tri-sport athlete growing up and played Division I basketball in college on scholarship. That’s the person he fell in love with, the active and happy version of myself. So our relationship was rocky and I was bordering depression, I knew something had to give.

(How I got started) At school, one of my students (Cameron) walked in with a business card for his parents “box”, CrossFit FCH. I asked why he gave it to me, and his response was “I don’t know, just thought you could use it.” I remembered thinking wow, even the kids think I need to lose weight. But I talked to Stephanie soon thereafter and by the end of October I had tried it out, completed the elements course and was well on my journey. I started the regular classes November 2, 2011. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. Harder than any high school or college strength and conditioning regiment I had ever been through. I made a commitment that I was going to do this no matter what. I ran my first 5k since high school sometime in October during the elements phase and it took me nearly 45 minutes. Just weeks later I ran it again in 33 minutes. Now I am consistently running them in 29-30 minutes. CrossFit transforms you in every way. You run not only faster but its easier because of all the strength training, it transforms your attitude through the outlandish WODs that you never think you can accomplish, but then YOU DO! The support from everyone is amazing, no matter what level you are on, you feel great being there. There is a no man left behind mentality in CrossFit. We stick around til the last person has finished, motivating each other. In my first 5 months at CrossFit FCH, I have lost nearly 50 pounds, dropped 3 pant sizes and for the first time since high school I wear a medium t-shirt! I am not where I want to be yet, but I am motivated and closer to it than I was 5 months ago.
